At the end of the week when the most Americans yet died from COVID19, last night the FDA provided an Emergency Use Approval for the Pfizer-BioNTech Coronavirus vaccine. The approval (which is available here) is for individuals 16 years and older, and did not restrict the use of the vaccines unless the recipient has a known history of a severe allergic reaction (e.g., anaphylaxis) to any component of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine. Individuals with severe allergies to food or drugs were not excluded.

The approval should make the vaccine available in a matter of days. A report on the approval in the WSJ is here. Most major news sites have an article on the release.
This is truly the turning point of the pandemic. No celebrations, please keep the masks on and hang in for another few months. But be assured, if everyone gets a vaccine this nightmare will end.
After receiving a vaccine dose, would a covid test come back positive? My wife is a nurse who may receive the first vaccine dose before holiday travels that require a negative test. Thanks

Great question. An antibody (blood) test could be positive, but an antigen or PCR (swab tests) should not.
